LIVE ROCK CRITIC TWELVE SMASH MOUTH July 2011

Smash Mouth live at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas, July 2011.

They were horrible. Hype had been generated that Smash Mouth was going to be a great event.

That was so far from the truth. The vocals were bad, off key and tuneless. The band played so sparsely that it was almost like one of those little African finger pianos,  plunking and tapping. I was surprised that such an amateurish performance would even be tolerated at an establishment as well known as the Hard Rock Cafe. I wonder what social or economic mechanism brings about such a situation.

I am not sure what audience was being groomed, as I considered the appearance of the band members, the choice of clothing and repeat numbers which sounded very much alike. I apologise that I have written so many negative reviews, it seems that good acts are few and far between.

I was surprised at the solid wall of sound put out by "RadioHead" in concert in England recently, I caught a couple of numbers they did on HDTV.
